About the Society

Founded in 1992, Spital Tongues History Society is dedicated to promoting and learning about history.

Our interest covers history in all its forms - at the local level and beyond - which is reflected in our excellent programme of monthly speakers.

The Society is based in Spital Tongues, itself one of the most historically rich areas of Newcastle upon Tyne. Spital Tongues is barely a mile from the city centre and universities, yet enjoys a unique geographical location. Surrounded on four sides by the city's historic moors (complete with cows), Spital Tongues has retained its sense of identity and village atmosphere.

This website is intended to provide information about the Society and particularly our programme of events. Everyone is very welcome to come along and enjoy hearing our speakers.

It is our intention to add further content to this site over the coming months, including more information about Spital Tongues village - in the meantime, we hope you find the site useful and enjoyable, and look forward to seeing you at our future events!

Chair, Spital Tongues History Society
